Big Bands

The University of Missouri-Columbia has three big bands:

MU Concert Jazz Band is the flagship ensemble of the MU Jazz Performance program. The quality of past performances has resulted in Outstanding Ensemble and Outstanding Soloist awards at the prestigious Notre Dame, Wichita, Elmhurst College and North Texas Collegiate Jazz Festivals. Each year prominent jazz artists work and perform with the students. Guests in past years have included Benny Golson, Bobby Shew, Mike Stienel, Jamey Aebersold, Ron McConnell, Dominic Spera, Phil Wilson, Bob Mintzer, Terell Stafford, Eric Person, John Fedchock, Ron Miles, Plas Johnson, and Maria Schneider. In 2003 and 2008, they performed at the Missouri Music Educators Association state convention. Their repertoire consists of the finest classic and contemporary professional big band charts available.

Concert Jazz Band is directed by Dr. Douglas Leibinger; rehearsals are 2:00-2:50 MWF in 201 Loeb Hall.
